Ever heard that it takes 21 days to break a habit or form a new one? Well my husband & I recently decided to test this theory. We have really been struggling to develop a healthier lifestyle that includes eating healthy and exercising for a couple of years now. Every so often we say "Ok, this is it" and then we do it for maybe a week or so and then go back to our old ways. Well, not anymore!
We created a calendar with 21 days marked starting as of yesterday. We both have the main goal of living a healthy lifestyle & exercising which we know will be a process...but we also came up with our own personal goals in order to get ourselves jumpstarted and that's where the 21 days come in. For the next 21 days my husband's goal is to cut way back on the carbs that he eats, my goal is to eat absolutely NO fried foods! Hopefully if the theory holds true, at the end of these 21 days my hubby will no longer be a carb-addict and I will no longer be addicted to fried foods!!
We also set up a sort of reward system for ourselves and if we get through these next 21 days without any cheating, we will both get a reward of our choice. Hubby has always wanted a tattoo so that's what he chose & I chose to get a pair of Brighton sunglasses I've had my eye on!
For some reason this time feels different than all the other times we said "Ok, this is it". Don't get me wrong, we are completely realistic and realize you don't just "get healthy" overnight...our long term goal is to become "addicted" to a healthy lifestyle, but you have to start somewhere and breaking bad habits sounds good to me! I am extremely confident that we will succeed in this...stay tuned & I'll keep you updated!
